Hey guys,
I don't live in Harrismith, but I have family there.
The situation is worsening all the time. Electricity, roads, water etc.

This post relates to water. I know how annoying it can be to have a water cut for a day. 2 is extra annoying.
Harrismith had water cut (not at all due to drought or anything, just seemingly due to ineptitude of municipality maintenance affairs) last time I was there it was 12 days without water. Then water came back on !('Another good story to tell!')

I heard from family that this time it is now 7 weeks!!!! without water. SEVEN WEEKS!!! Now, I don't know about you, but that is completely f*****ing insane.
And the town just makes plans amongst themselves to go fill up tanks and pay each other for the tankload etc. And not much is being said or done about it. It just gets worse. The residents just seem to keep their heads down and carry on.
Yes, I know that folk should just up and leave the town, but it's not that easy if you dont have the means.

This is worse than the ancient times because at least the ancient rivers were flowing without too much faeces and factory effluent.
This is crazy and it seems that nobody talks about it.
What the hell can one do?

I reckon get hold of some of the news agencies or amabhungane or something.

The only thing that will force the authorities to act against the ineptitude, corruption, etc that leave towns without services is a consumer boycott.

I saw a month or 3 ago that there was an exposé about the municipality and its corruption on Carte Blanche, but if anything it has become a lot worse since then........

Indeed, but that would need attorneys with integrity to represent the community. I don't know how that will play out.
I'm not trying to be pessimistic, but realistic.

Some communicaties only get water or services once they strike or close down roads, unfortunately it is the only language some municipalities understand.....

'Since November 2018, under 40% of the required water has been delivered to residents and businesses, many residents have received no water, farmers are supplying water in tankers, and businesses and industries are struggling to remain open.
The causes of this disaster are the fact that the Wilge River water level is too low for pumping, and MaP Water is unable to get enough water from the Nuwejaar Spruit pump station to the Wilge Water Treatment Plant because of a too small bulk water pipeline, breaking pumps, bursting pipes and a lack of equipment and resources. In addition to these problems, there have been two incidents of sabotage to electricity installations serving the pump stations.'

Another good story to tell.
