Hi guys

Has anyone done their own will?
Can you suggest a good template?
I see many online.

Thanks

You can get your bank to send you a draft, and then edit and change it as needed, and never send them the signed copy.

Link has a template but more important is the guidance.
Personally don’t find the cost to have them drawn up prohibitive.

I don't think it is the cost to get it drawn up that concerns people, but the fact that they usually put themselves down as executor of your estate.

Don't ever offer to be executor. That's a waste of time.
What I've heard is that even if you are the executor, you can just hire a lawyer to do all the work. Depending on estate size, that may save a packet compared to the bank's 2% fee. Of course, I'm speaking as someone who will have the bank as executor.

A will is just a piece of paper. You can write whatever you want on it. It only becomes a legal document when the person dies.

Curious - what happens in the case where a person says in his Will ‘leave everything to x’ … but has policy’s that state beneficiaries as ‘a’ ?

Does one supersede the other because they contradict?

Insurance policies will go to the beneficiary stated on the policy, regardless of the Will.

My work benefits, pension fund etc. will be determined by the Will. Though I have nominated beneficiaries on these, it's not guaranteed to pay to them if someone can prove they are entitled to the funds

I stand to be corrected
