My wife has had a SARS refund reversed within 2 days if it being paid, FNB says it was logged as being paid in error by SARS and reverse paid back into a SARS account so as far as they are concerned its SARS problem, but they don`t want to supply any paperwork to that effect and have only referred us to a SARS tel no. to contact. SARS denies that a reversal was done and as far as they are concerned my wifes TAX has a clean bill of health as is reflected on their system...! They have suggested it may be fraud but FNB are adamant that it`s a SARS issue....! It`s quiet a substantial amount of money for us so we are trying to see if this is happening to others as was implied by the call centre operator........Anyone have any advise or similar experience lately ?

Does your wife have a business or private banker with FNB? If so, let them deal with it.

I submitted my Sars 8 weeks ago, got audited, since then zero reply!

I think they are broke! No jokes

Absolutely zero response after submitting a few weeks ago.

No assessment, no communication, no refund, just nothing.

IMO they are in a state of collapse.

I filed on the 08/10/2020 ... uploaded for verification (that is it), zero reply ... nadda zip ! :(

They're not broke. I got paid within 3 days of submitting so you're just having your stuff given a cavity search.

Same, but I know some people who are waiting way longer than legislated. Might still be reversed though.

My return was amongst the first logged, in July.

I was notified of a pending payment. On the payout morning I was told that my tax was being verified and that I'd hear back within weeks. A month past their maximum estimate I was notified that all was OK but that now my previous year's return had been selected for verification.

I am still waiting, with zero update other than to say that they'll get to the previous year after they've finished with the current one.

I am livid. It is beyond pathetic.

My SO filed on Saturday evening (same as me). I owed SARS, she had a return from SARS. She got paid out yesterday.

SARS has yet to deduct their share from my account.

I speak under correction, but you are responsible to do payment to SARS. They do not deduct from your account. I would check it out as SARS do not hesitate to charge interest on accounts due!

It's most likely a stopper on your bank account. SARS put it there, not the bank. Phone the SARS call centre to confirm if it's a stopper or bank account verification. Take the necessary documents down to a SARS branch. You can book an appointment online. You can even book a telephone appointment but make sure to use the correct channels to submit your documents otherwise you will waste your time. Check your SARS registered details to see if the bank account status shows as valid and is the correct bank account.

Previous years of assessment other than the current year aren't subject to the 21 working day turnaround time.

I understand your frustration. Not much you can do other than wait or phone the call centre and ask for escalation.

The onus lies with you to pay them. Since you submitted your return this past weekend you still have time to pay before interest will start accruing. The due date will be at the top right on P1 of your ITA34.

Get a statement of account on eFiling and pay what's due to the correct SARS bank account - should be SARS-ITA in your case. All the details needed to pay is on the statement.

I hope that you didn't call it.

No assessment? Did you you hit the calculate button before submitting and did it give you an error?

If your assessment was selected for manual intervention then you will have to wait 60 business days.

If it's another reason then phone SARS.

60 business days from this past week ends in March next year. (16 Dec to 15 Jan counts as 0 business days FYI)

I urge everyone to make use of the call centre to find out exactly what is happening with their taxes. Be kind to the call centre staff, some of them can perform some serious tax magic that can benefit anyone greatly. Also, if the operator really sucked, rate them after your call. That goes for the staff that did a good job too.

If SARS exceeds their turnaround time with anything, lay a complaint on eFiling. The more complaints we have, the better.

Complaints only work if SARS didn't do what they had to do. So make sure they have breached the provisions in the TAA. Otherwise your time will be wasted.

Let me explain what happened to me. I completed mine. Did my calculation, result a nice refund. Then I got a message “manual intervention required from Sars side”. So I called them, it means I need to submit all my docs for audit. I did that.

8 weeks later, no change in my status.

Mmmm
