I've been trying to use FaceTime to call a cousin in the uk, we both have wifi and both have uk unlocked iPhones, but when I dial or he does, the other person doesn't get a call.

Is there some setup or activation required?
Has anyone got FaceTime working on uk unlocked phones?

Thanks for the help

Mmm - my boss at works lives in the US but travels a lot to SA. Both he and his wife has iPhone4's, and they FaceTime all the time ('scuse the pun) - him from here, she from there. 4 Mbps uncapped IS connection at work, no firewalls...

Lol thanks, seems it was a wifi issue, got it working now. It's no different from videocalling on a nokia. Nice for the odd occasion. I'm gonna enable over 3G using cydia for those times.

Thanks for the replies though

Hopefully Skype video calling will arrive soon :)

Facetime is pretty cool from a Mac to an iPhone though - loving it :)

I just downloaded Skype but have not used it yet. So does your post above mean that Skype is not functional at the moment? Or is it functional for Voice calls but not video calls yet?

Skype has video calling on the PC but not the iPhone App version.

over normal 3g connection?

Well, normal video calling is billed per minute (like phone calls). FaceTime uses your WiFi network thus using your ADSL (or whatever) data - no actual charge for the call. If you jailbreak and use it over 3G then you using your 3G data bundle - no price per minute for the call ;)

Just tried facetime Mac -> iPhone. Actually works nicely indeed. Well paint me pleasantly surprised :)

And no Nokias can use wifi? I think you need to check a few facts before :p

Probably depends on what "video calling" you referring to mate... Standard video calling (with a phone number) goes through the cellphone network (3G) and gets charged per minute by your cellular network. If they use a different service/app (like fring) on their Nokia then they can use wi-fi and not pay per minute...

Indeed. And there is no difference in service provided. Then you can use said application on a wifi or 3G network.
