Has anyone's ICQ stopped working?

MSN is working fine though.

This is exactly the opposite from last month, when ICQ worked and MSN didnt. And when I called their "call centre" at the time, apparently their MSN "wasnt working either" -- as if thats something they should admit to the customer. Have they no shame?
 
MSN was down last month all over the world due to an exploit that was floating around on the MSN network, it allowed an attacker to use a specially crafted image file as thier user image and then when they sent messages to people and that persons computer tried to download the user image to display it, it caused a buffer overflow which means the attacker could execute command on the victims computer, which caused alot of chaos and that is why MSN shut down the service while a patch was pending and forced users to update before they could connect.

As for the ICQ thing, I have been conferencing with my server admin ever since my server crashed at 8AM, it is now 1AM, so bleh.

wierd, my msn has never gone down, so it cant be becuase of the exploit slimothy. a patch was released for that a while back anyways.
 
I know about the MSN exploit, but when it was down it was because of MTU changes/testing -- it worked fine when I was connected to a non-iBurst link.

I think the ICQ problem is due to the same cause.
 
mtu changes/testing with who? you? well if you played with your mtu and you were testing stuf why on earth would you call iburst help desk?

and pan so you've been on msn 24/7 for the last 6 weeks?
 
Torrents not working

Linked to Roodepoort tower.

For the life of me i can't get a torrent to start downloading. Worked fine a few days ago. When trying to save the torrent file it keeps on giving a connection was reset error.

any advise?
 
No on their side. They were testing various MTUs on their base stations (December-January).

Incidentally, the ICQ problem magically disappeared. Weird.
