After Mandela's departure from the public scene and from national office a "new" breed occupied the seats of power, and it signalled the end of things as we knew them. The successors are a "new" lot in the distinct sense that they are aloof, little demi-gods walking on stilts in an artificial effort to reach the sky. But the harder they try, the more difficult it is to reach the angels.

One of the ANC leaders, Smuts Ngonyama, was very honest when he explained his acquisition of more than R100m for "facilitating" the multi-billion rand jackpot which he and a few cronies made when ordinary people's pensions were used to finance their purchase of a lucrative stake in Telkom. Said a dismissive Smuts, rather like the fat rich man of the cartoons: "I did not join the struggle to be poor."

I think he has it spot on....

I always said that Animal Farm should be required reading for everyone in this country.

In my eyes JQ always gets it right, but then again there few individuals who call him racists when his views dont conform to thier beliefs!
Another brilliant piece again!

This is a democracy. These are democratically elected leaders.

Self enrichment and cronyism must be a result of the will of the majority :D

One of those mega-rich lottery owners-in-waiting, Cyril Ramaphosa, is being actively punted and encouraged, by sections of the rich (obviously) to make a decision to run for the presidency of this country

Is he perhaps inferring that we need Zuma as the new President at the head of a leftwing Cosatu cabal to shake out these sort of leeches that have rather prospered under Mbeki ???.
