I've seen the new(ish) harmony touch remote advertised on the net and my harmony 700 is starting to give issues so I thought about upgrading.
Naturally I would like to see/touch/feel before I buy, but cannot seem to find anyone in JHB that keeps logitech remotes anymore..

Last one I bought was from Dion Wired, they say they don't stock them anymore..can't seem to find them in retail stores anymore, anyone know what happened to them?

I'm in the same boat, haven't found anything local so far. My 700 has been dropped once too many times and the bottom half of the LCD is dead.

I'll probably get a Harmony 650 from Importitall if nothing else comes up in this thread. The 915 is 5 grand lol.

You can still find them in New World in Menlyn shopping centre.

Ok well, any other suggestions then? Price range >R2k went to a home theatre store and they only had RCA?.. think it was R14k without the chip - another R6k (whatever that was)..
I asked if it would make Michael Jackson appear in my lounge.. the guy didn't think that was so funny...

Think you mean RTI. They are pricey but very good. I used to program them.

Logitech to unload Harmony line after 'disappointing' quarter

The electronics company blames continued weakness in the global PC market for strategy shift away from remote controls, speaker docks, and console gaming peripherals.

Logitech today announced its intention to sell its Harmony remotes division after a "disappointing" third quarter.

The electronics company posted an operating loss of $180 million for the third quarter of fiscal 2013 on sales of $615 million, a 14 percent decline over the same period last year.

"As we articulated when we started the third quarter, continued weakness in the global PC market was the primary factor in our disappointing Q3 results," Logitech CEO Bracken P. Darrell said in a statement. "These results are unacceptable and we are taking decisive action as an outcome of my strategic review."

Putting the blame for the disappointing results squarely on the weak PC market worldwide, the company said it plans to focus more on mobile computing, specifically tablets and smartphones. Darrell said the company has identified product categories that don't fit in with the Logitech's new strategy.

"As a result, we have initiated the process to divest our remote controls and digital video security categories, and we plan to discontinue other non-strategic products, such as speaker docks and console gaming, by the end of calendar year 2013," he said.

Logitech acquired the Harmony line in 2004 when it purchased privately held Intrigue Technologies of Canada for $29 million in cash.

The harmony remotes were quite weak. I dropped the 650 once on the parquet floor and it would restart itself randomly after that. Useless. First and last one I purchased.

YMMV I guess. Also have a 650. Lost count of how many times I've dropped it. Still works perfectly.
Anyway, the big question is - who are they selling their Harmony division to? Cos that's one of the most useful pieces of tech I've ever bought, and I don't see any replacements on the horizon.

Is there any alternative in a similar price range?
