Two days Kyalami got hit 2 mother of bolts, and fried my PC's mother board, a TV and apparently my modem.

But the weird thing is that my disco lights on my UTD work and show full signal. Problem is i simply cannot connect, via ether and USB. Brings up the error 678 - The computer you are connecting to is not responding.

Anyone have any ideas what can be done?

Using 3G atm - super fast, but i keep on d/c the whole time...

Same for me took out my netgear modem. Had to get a new one

Power outage

I found out today that after our power had been off for 8 hours (load shedding by eishkom that my modum had "reset" itself and I was geting the same error number as you.

I had to unplug the power cable from the modum, then reconnect and re-boot my pc and it worked fine again.

Lightning ?

Nope, nothing for me, and I have a 4m tall Iburst antenna.

Only thing that happened is that the constant power cuts and surges on power coming back blew the degaussing coil on my TV (so all the colours on screen change at random every time you switch it on).
