That is because some in Cuba actually do benefit from conditions there. Great healthcare, high quality of life, etc. What do the people of Zim benefit from in the current situation there? starvation? power cuts? money worth less than toilet paper?

Waste of money and resources... but than africa always needs the West" (yes Cuba is west of Zimbabwe) to help it out since they can't manage on their own like the west can.

The US granted Zimbabwe $220m in aid in 2007, US ambassador James McGee was quoted as saying this week.

I have not personally been there, No. I'm not allowed to spend $$$ there. ;) But I think life is much better for the average Cuban than it is for the average Zimababwean. Sure, Cuba has troubles and most of those probably stem from 40+ years of sanctions from America, but Cuba is very resourceful and there are many who are very patriotic to their country and the cause that they are working towards. The very fact that they can send so many doctors out throughout the world says something about their society to me.

The fact that there are so many Cubans living in and around Miami who never want to return to their homeland and who are trying their level best to get any family they have left "back home" into the US says way more about their society to me.

Great place to visit for a holiday, but hell I'd hate to live there
