Hello,

Have some friends that have fibre (with Openserve/Telkom) but they want to move to another ISP. They are unable to do so at the moment as the OpenServe map hasn't updated yet to show them as dark purple. The other ISPs refuse to deal with them stating that it is impossible to have fibre without the map showing so.

Is there any way that one can port your line to an ISP without the OpenServe map showing you as purple?

I am in the same boat. Fiber is there, been active for over 8 months, even Telkom technician showing me it is active on there online portal, but not Telkom or any other ISP can help, as the map only show pink.
It is very frustrating waiting for Openserve to do actual updates. Map updates normally happen on Thursday morning around about 10am. But I have not seen any changes to the maps for a while. Not sure if this is for all areas, but I monitor my area including my road weekly. Anyone have better in site on this matter regarding map updates.

You can use ADSL account on openserve. No need to port your line away from Telkom.

Yes but then you have to pay ADSL prices, which is more expensive than fibre.

Hopefully one the ISP reps on the forums can help you out.

This also happens if Telkom is the line provider and has signed a contract with the community in that area? That's one possibility as ours now depicts the same thing on our sites maps, alternatively call OpenServe and ask them? My experience was very good with them.

No reason an ISP cant just issue an account which works on IPC?

If one of your customers pays you for the OS fibre rental and your ISP's data (i.e. customer buys a package from you), and then the customer decides to change ISPs and move his OS fibre line rental and data product to another ISP... BIG problem.

Yeah so keep the line with Telkom and just use data from another provider?

You cannot get a "line only" from "Telkom"

I know as much but if you are that unhappy and cant have someone move your line then you pay for 2 accounts, or continue the struggle :)

That is not the solution. Why should I have to cancel my FTTH service with OS if I want to lease the line from another service provider?

For DSL lines OS move it to the holding pool without have to totally cancel the service. Why can it not be done for FTTH?

OS have no migration system currently in place that's why it's not possible at the moment to move lines into a pool for ISP to then grab and take ownership of....very frustrating issue too.

As said earlier, Telkom you can't get fibre only. I already have an ISP account that I got on a promotion that meets everything I do. Also from them it has to be a 2 yr contract, and I am not sure where in the world I will be in 9 months from now.

If I take a Telkom contract and need to cancel it in 6 months, what are the penalties? If it's just a month then I would be fine.

I went with a line only option with one ISP who allows month-to-month Openserve Fibre line only and kept my existing ISP DSL data accounts as I have accumulated a large amount of data. No issue.

MyBroadband was recently alerted to complaints from fibre-to-the-home clients on Openserve infrastructure who said they are struggling to switch service providers.

While they were receiving fibre broadband services from Telkom, the Openserve coverage map has not yet been updated to include their area.

The coverage map provides an overview of which areas have access to the fibre network and if you are eligible to receive a fibre service.

This has made it impossible to get service from other Internet service providers, as ISPs will not allow you to apply for a fibre account unless the Openserve coverage map shows your property as covered.

According to one complaint, Internet service providers refused to let the Telkom client switch to them as Openserve did not list their address as having fibre coverage.

Telkom – No comment

Telkom was contacted for comment on the frequency of Openserve’s coverage map updates, but it did not respond to questions.

Lodge it with the ISP who then handles the request and talking part with OpenServe. Yeah it's a pain but it's one solution which Afrihost got resolved for me within a day.

Same problem here.

The whole area has had the small black boxes with fiber on them on the poles last year yet the map hasn't changed since January.
