Have Frogfoot, moving to Openserve - can both run concurrently?

I have Frogfoot as my FNO and Mweb as my ISP via a work contract that is coming to an end next month, and we have been given a few options to continue the service in our private capacity.

I am not happy with Frogfoot though, and want to move to Openserve as they have trenched in our area.

Some concerns are that moving ISPs while remaining on Frogfoot will involve downtime, which is no bueno (suppose I could get Rain in for those ±2 weeks). I have the option of sticking with Mweb, but if I am going to be moving FNO's then I may as well switch to a better ISP.

My question is, can I have Openserve install so long and run them alongside the existing FF infra, then once the Frogfoot contract lapses, have them come and remove their equipment? I am assuming that they won't dig up their run from the street to the house but just want their ONT and AC adapter back so Openserve could just use the existing conduit?

Yep you can have a concurrent fibre installation. Usually Openserve takes 2-6 days to install new installations (in the Cape Town area at least)

Also Frogfoot wont collect their ONT and AC adaptor - you just need to keep it safe. Your current ISP might want their router back though

They (FF) have been better as of late, but I still have dips every few days when my pppoe session reconnects.

I went from the 120/60 to 100/50. Price difference is about +- R50 more now on OS. I would even drop the speed if the increase was out of the budget just for the reliability of the service.

I still have scars from what FF put us through in the past. Granted, they are significantly better today than what they were but still... and the cheeky move to increase their fee when their service was rubbish... if I could move to open serve I would do so without any delay

So I've decided that I am definitely going to move to Openserve, and I will be placing my order with them probably in the next week or so. My existing contract with NTT runs out at the end of June so I think that should give OS enough time to do the installation.

I see they have a promo where you get 30 days of free uncapped access while you choose an ISP; anyone know the details? A little ONT with a WIFI module is great but in this day and age it would probably be easier to just go with an ISP from the get go as I'd imagine you cannot change the SSID or configure it at all and I don't lus reconfiguring all my IoT devices just for a few days.

You dont have to wait for the trial to end before moving to any ISP of your choice, the ISP should be able to receive ownership of that Bnumber and with that order, Openserve will come out to swap or reconfigure the ONT.

It is the same as Webconnect, and there are restrictions.
Web Connect doesn't use any of the IP pools of ISPs.

Instead of getting the webconnect which is limited why not go full in on OS - as in get an ISP to install the non webconnect ONT so that you're not limited

I will eventually, I am just trying to align my dates etc so I don't have any excess expense.

The interim solution would have been nice as a fallback.

You get 30 days free. No ipv6 only natted ipv4 on Telkom's network. Web Connect and Web Connect Prepaid is only natted and only on the Telkom network no matter the ISP you choose. You can't change the Wifi ssid but you get 2.4 and 5Ghz and 1 LAN port to use.

Web connect is not available in all areas so if your area is not available after the trial you need to contact an ISP to convert it to the Layer 2 ISP service where the ONT will have wifi disabled and only LAN1 enabled and you use your ISP router and network.

IF you have both web connect and fibre connect available you can do prepaid web connect topups in the app or your ISP can convert you to a monthly web connect option.

You get the wifi enabled Huawei or Nokai equivalent depending on the rollout in your area.

The 30 days free trial is 50Mbps down and 25Mbps up.
