The laptop i am busy with has a dvd drive thats kapoot.I cant install windows from usb cause its bios only has a option for removable storage boot( this is not usb support booting).

I have tried using bootable usb software to no avail.
1-Tried ubcd's ubusb.exe program.Could not make it work for the laptop.
2-Tried- First, you must format the target USB drive to be bootable (using PE2USB or similar), then place the following files to the ROOT of the USB drive: ntdetect.com, ntldr, winnt.sif & the bootable ISO of your choice.
3-bartpe stuff.

Tried google but not much info on my search.
How can i create a windows image for usb flash drive that will boot when there is no bios support for it.
This question is mainly for the linux crowdcause most topics on google takes me to linux forums:(.What i need to do is fake the pc in thinking that a cdrom with windows is in and not a usb drive.......something along those lines. If i am unclear and my post is confusing please i am tired and its 0103 in the morning:D

Answer is probably no but does the laptop have a 1.44" stiffy drive? I suspect not as it has a dvd drive.

Does the BIOS have an option for PXE Boot (Boot from LAN)?

If the BIOS does not support booting from USB then there is nothing you can do to get around this.

You could try the PXE boot option if it is available but I have never done it myself.

The easiest option would be to remove the drive from the laptop and the caddy and plug it in to a desktop. If it is a pata drive you will need 2.5" to 3.5" adapter. Sata should work I think. Install windows on it, reinstall in laptop and boot it up. Will have to update drivers etc.

Have you checked there isn't a manufacturers recovery partition on the HD's laptop? Normally access that through the BIOS.

ja, I think you are gonna have to take that drive out... format it and copy the installation files to a folder on the hard drive. Then put it back and start the installation from the hard drive.

Of course you could always try get your hands on an external dvd drive...
