I'm hoping someone (maybe the SP reps?) can help me out here.

I need a BL-5F nokia battery for a Navigator, but for some reason, its impossible to get one.

I went to a bunch of vodashops, cell c and mtn shops. All of them tell me that they can't order one, or they'll "try, but its difficult". Why is it difficult?

I also asked the local VodaWorld if they can order one for me, and they said they'll let me know. Its three weeks later and I haven't heard a peep out of them.

The phone is probably 3 years old, why is it so hard to find a decent battery? Everyone has the cheap knockoff batteries, but in my experience they just don't last.

Thanks in advance.

R450 is just crazy imo. Rather just get one or two generic ones. Yea they might not be as awesome as the 'legit' ones, but at least a brand new generic one will work better than your 3 year old battery. Else try expansys for about R150.

The BL-5 batteries were notorious for blowing up or having severe heat issues... I think Nokia just stopped making them as soon as they stopped making phones that used them.

Happened to me when I had a Nokia with one of those batteries. Friend too. Nokia did publish some info about it.

Interesting, thanks. Hopefully nothing serious goes wrong with the new one.

I do recall a heat issue with the BP-4L batteries (the big Li-Po ones), but I haven't heard of any other issues.

There is no such battery!

All batteries from Nokia end in a letter!

The issue you might be referring to are a small batch of BL-5C that were fitted primarily in Nokia 6230i.

Any new BL-5F would have probably been on the shelf for quite some time! You'd be better to go for a quality generic where there is a greater volume of turnover!

Who stocks generic batteries though? (BL-5CA replacement)

You can try dealextreme (dx.com). They ship for free to SA. If it's just a battery, you may get lucky and it will slip through customs. Else you must pay the VAT at the Post Office.
