Hi

Who else is having problems streaming HBO Now on Apple TV?
It buffers a lot. Does not matter if it's day or night

But I never have problems with Netflix or Hulu Plus.

I use Axxess at home and Afrihost at work. Get same problems at both locations.

And it can't be my DSL line speed as I am on 20Mb vDSL at both locations. Everything else works perfect.

MTN backbone always gave me issues with streaming so they probably haven't accounted for HBO yet.

Grab a free 1GB Web Africa account and see if you experience the same issue

Thank you for the advice. I can't sign up for that free account as they want my credit card details

As someone suggested, try a different ISP, but the problem might be how HBO Now delivers their content. I believe Netflix and Hulu Plus use CDN services such as Akamai which have local caching POPs in South Africa. I also think ISPs have specifically given preference to Netflix and similar data due to the number of local users. In HBO Now's case, they might only be serving content from US servers, since that's the only location they're available from at the moment, which will increase latency and potential streaming issues. Couple that with ISPs currently not giving HBO Now streams preference, and it might be the cause of the problems. But hopefully it's just an ISP issue, because I'm also be interested in trying it out in the near future. Let us know once you manage to test it on WA or another network (try emailing WA support for a free account if the sign up is requiring a CC).

Afrihost/Axxess has never been good for streaming, unless you getting a low bitrate HD stream from Netflix/Hulu.

If you want to stream, you need another service provider.

Try Crystalweb, before I signed up with them they gave me a free account for like an hour or 2. AFAIK, they don't ask for credit card details.
