for those who have gotten the card, well post them here :)
...

  • One thing is certain, i can now finally play assassins creed with eye candy.
  • Aoc is better than it was with my 8800, but still this games needs a serious memory management and renderer rewrite or at least some tunement there.
  • Quake 4, yes hehe i had to see how pritty it looks since thats one thing i picked up the image quality on my LCD is allot better.
  • Hellgate london, lol well i'll see what that thing does in dx 10 mode since last time it wasn't optimal levels.
  • temps, well with stock its around 78-86, load doesn't change it - will be fitting the vf1000 tomorrow though and see how that changes.

all in all, i would say for the amount i paid and now i can at least play with AA on and not see zim performance - good as it was said on money vs performance. Not bad, but don't we all just want too see 200FPS+ in any given situation hehehe ;)

...

will do crysis and other tomorrow [3d mark comes to mind as well] - need bed :)

-please feel free to add on with your own mini reviews after you have played around with the card.

It is a bit late (early) don't you think? :p

I $till have to wait a bit for my 4870 :(
Cannot wait! :D

when are you due ? :p

-remember your mini review here hehe....

Itai dropped my 4870 off last night, no games benched yet but stock with an E7200 at 3.8 i got 145** in 3DMark06 which is not to bad. Going to put it into my E8400 system later today and see what it can do :)

Thing idles at 79 which is an irritation but does not seem to get much warmer than that even under 3d load

I'm back and I've plugged in my 4850. She makes things looks beautiful, even on my CRT monitor. I find the ATI control panel to be a big improvement on previous versions. The card performs well in Crysis (so far) and because I have a dodgy UT3 install disc, I need to figure out how to get around those installation errors before I can put some serious mileage on this card. Also, my OS (V64) possibly needs a reinstall. She's rather sluggish since I've put in the new card. I know it's not the card but more likely remnants of my previous GTS and ATI card that still hanging around somewhere. I'll update you guys on my experience once I do a fresh install.

A little something about 4850's temperature.

Testing environment as signature (besides the graphics card, which I will change shortly), Raidmax Sagitta with one 12CM intake fan infront of the HD bay, one 12 CM exhaust under PSU, both running at low RPM through fan controller (less than 33% of it's full speed), side 8CM intake fan (ont top of NB heatsink and 4850) is off.

Ok, with stock cooling/clock frequency and stock BIOS (auto fan speed), card idle temp about 70.

After change fan speed contral to manual and from 29% rotation to 40%, idle temp now 57. Did not notice any increase in noise level.

A little increase to the stock fan RPM and 4850 runs much cooler in my chassis (which I would prefer to have a lower noise level). Will try overclock the card later and see how it goes. But I don't foresee to have a problem with stock heatsink which is quite suprising (increase RPM for 12CM fans and switch on 8CM for direct airflow).

What did you use to change the fan speed, i cannot find anything in either Riva or Catalyst

CCC, profiles, create new and save as what ever name you like. Exit CCC.

go to C:\Documents and Settings\Your user name\Local Settings\Application Data\ATI\ACE\
Edit the new profile.xml you just added with notepad, locat the following:
<Property name="FanSpeedAlgorithm" value="Automatic" />
</Feature>
<Feature name="FanSpeedRPMTarget_0">
<Property name="Want" value="0" />
</Feature>
<Feature name="FanSpeedPercentTarget_0">
<Property name="Want" value="22" />

change
"FanSpeedAlgorithm" value="Automatic"
to
"FanSpeedAlgorithm" value="Manual"
and then change the value (29)
<Feature name="FanSpeedPercentTarget_0">
<Property name="Want" value="29" />
to a value between 0-100.

Crysis 1280*960, 2x AA, High details, a little lag but playable (unplayable with my 8800GT 256Mb......), a little OC should sort it out. :D

one fair warning - plug in the pcie power connector

after attaching my vf1000, i thought i broke it because lol the above was not done and it kept on doing the gpu-is-raped beeps :eek:

idle now at 35 :) :) :)

do load and other checks later on

yay first gpu mod done... hehe not so hard, but delicate work though

i must admit, this one is on red and not green - really a good "klein botttjies, groot gif"

Now you need to clock it higher.....Too bad I don't have any newer 3D mark, just pull the bar in CCC to 700 and 1050, will run Crysis/UT3 again, maybe install COH today too.

haha guys you see I wasnt speaking sh*t when I said ATi has better image quality :rolleyes:
If you guys say you can see a difference, then it really is the truth ehehe

Welcome to ATi :D
Hey can one of you 4000 series owners pls pls pls run COD4 with 12x Edge Detect AA and tell me how it performs pls pls I really want to know

having my 4850 on 650 by 1040, how did you determine that 700 by 1050 is ok ?

:o Yaya, too ambitious...5 minutes with crysis and black screen. Was running GPUZ in the backgroud to find out about temp after game but need to reset system. Lower the core now and see how it goes,

If I try to watch TV with the TV tuner card, GPU core will be running at 100%? It's fine when I just installed the graphics card....

It's a problem with Video Mixing Renderer, if I use VMR9, problems, normal VMR then it's fine.

Looking forward to the Crysis results and hopefully COD 4

@ cyberarmy

Excellent thanks. I've also got a Raidmax Sagitta case so that'll ease my concerns about the temp

No problem.

Could anyone tell me where do I find the TV properties in Graphics settings under CCC? I saw now that our HIS cards are NTSC, but we have PAL here, could this be the cause of the problem I am experiencing with TV playback?
