HD 4850 ?

I definitely recommend it! I'm running one with an Artic Twin turbo cooler slapped on and she does the business. Price wise: I'm not sure. There are some floating around for
R1800 - R2000, PM Itai or one of the dealers to get the new price dude.

Ha Ha thanx but seriously I need a kard man.im running a geforce 8600gt and its run hes course:D

Where are you situated? I got mine for R2100 from a walk in shop

And one of the guys in the dealer section had an ad running for R1850. R2500 - R3000 is a rip off!

Check out landmarkpc.co.za also prophecy.co.za they going to be adding the HIS Digital range soon

HIS HD 4850 IceQ Turbo Edition

I've been running the HIS HD 4850 IceQ Turbo Edition for the last 3 days...
Got no problems with it... Got it from Landmark for R2700
It does run a little warm under load but I havent fiddled with the fan speed YET.
I'm still a noob with regard to overclocking but my readouts are as follows.
The following information was gathered after playing Battlefield2 @ for 2 hrs on MAX settings @ 1280x1024

CPU = 2ghz dual core @ 2.6ghz (41°C)
MOBO = Asus P5Q (43°C)
HIS HD4850 IceQ Turbo Edition
GPU = 650mhz @ (60°C)
Ram = 2000mhz
Gigabyte Aurora 3D 570 Case(not so good for cooling)

I haven't overclocked the GPU yet as I think its already running a little warm...
I would have used COD4 rather than BF2, but I cant get hold of a copy anywhere:(

Can anyone tell me if these temps are OK/GOOD/BAD any advice is welcome... And is there a Overclockers thread?

Read a Tomshardware review for the 4850 and 60°C is the standard temp when running under load it seems.

You only need to worry about it when it reaches around 90°C

This card is the current sweet spot on the market that has the best price/performance ratio, it's main competition the 9800gtx+ is 20% more expensive.
In comparison they trade equal bows on benchmarks but the 9800gtx+ does have some kind of Physics built in, although the current effectiveness or even support in real world gaming is debatable.

There are known hacks which enable the 3800 series to support physics but I haven't seen much information regarding the 4800, but it is inevitable.

In the end if you can find a sub R2200 4850, you have hit the jackpot.

Im getting the 4870X2 soon - as these get pretty hot too I was wondering If anyone knows how well a Raidmax Smilodon Case will cool it?

it's got a 120mm fan infront, 2 on the sides, one on the other side, and an exhaust fan..?

wouldn't wan't that card to melt away after I play my first 20 minutes of crysis on high settings@1920x1080

Dude, first of all you wasted extra money on the Turbo version which has a mere 25MHz oc on the core, which doesn't do anything for performance!
Second, if you had ever read anything about the 4800 series cards you would know that 60 degs load on the core is a GREAT temp!! That cooler keeps it cool and uber quiet..
