HI All

Does anyone have an HD and SD PVR decoder setup on extra view, where the decoders are located next to each other? I was wondering if you change channel on the HD 1 will the SD decoder also change?

I am concerned around this as the only way my house will work is if both are next to each other ( due to the old existing cabling system ). I would hate to keep pushing TV 1 on the SD decoder to one of the HD channel ranges .

thanks

If set up correctly, then no, changing the HDPVR channel will not change the SDPVR channel.

I have this setup. No interference...... use a different remote for each decoder.

Depends on what the Advanced Options->Xtraview->Remote selection is set to on the SDPVR. Ideally you'd want it set to SD Only so an HD channel change wont affect the SDPVR.

You should then program the HDPVR's (A3) remote to control the SDPVR's TV1 & TV2 environments ... http://forum.dstv.com/showthread.php?t=5358

Thanks looks like I will be buying a HD PVR now - why did I not think of this before the Olympics grrr

Thanks all for the help. On a side note - do you think I will need to get an expert to add the HD to current setup or will i be able to find out all I need from the dstv forums as from what I can see I will not need any new hardware?

If you are keeping the SD-PVR then you will need a multiswitch to split the 2 LNB cables into 4 as both the SD and the HD PVR require 2 LNB cables...

You will also need to run a heartbeat cable from the HD to the SD so that they can see each other for XTRAVIEW to work.

I have seen a lot of people (including installers) mess this XtraView combination up where you receive intermittent heartbeat and/or intermittent tvLink response.

If you're using this combination to achieve three independent viewing environments (ideally), you should connect the RF OUT from the SD PVR to a SLX2 active splitter. From there run the one OUT port on the SLX to the RF IN on the HD PVR and the other OUT port on the SLX to the 3rd viewing environment where the tvLink is situated. This will give you viewing environment 1 where the HD PVR is situated, viewing environment 2 where the SD PVR is situated and viewing environment 3, where the tvLink is situated.
