Hi,

I currently have the DSTV Premium package with a 1xxx series decoder. Can I buy a HD PVR decoder and view HD channels without choosing the R65 option? Do not want to use the PVR functionality at all. Only want HD channels on DSTV Premium.

Thanks.

i thought i was the only one who wanted this...

Ja... thats how I use it. You only need a single LNB for that set up too.

That's excellent news!

I inherited a 1st generation HD-PVR from an friend who emigrated and never enabled either the PVR or HD functionality because I was under the impression you have to upgrade your LNB 1st.

Just to 100% confirm - this is true for the 1st generation HD-PVR too?

Having an HDPVR and not using the PVR is the most insane thing I've heard all week. PVR let's you get some value for the hard earned cash you give to Monochoice each month. Cannot imagine life without it.

Well it does allow one to get HD without spending money on both a PVR and a LNB upgrade at once. Especially in a case like mine where I got the PVR for free.

If I like what I see I may well upgrade my LNB in a few months. On the other hand if I find the quality significantly worse than blu-ray or there's no HD content of note then none of my money was wasted.

You can get a dual LNB for like R200

I think your EPG won't work too well on a single LNB, might be wrong though.

Did you get a letter from him saying he had given/sold it to you? If not, MC will not enable the new decoder. Either produce the letter, carry on as if you are him, or write one yourself.

You must be on a seriously tight budget if you can't afford an extra R65pm.
You can get a dual LNB and some coax for R300.
