Which one of the two would be a better option? I am looking at getting either one within the next few months.

What are the pros and cons of both?

DVD PVR
Pros: Can copy movies to DVD.
Cons: You have to manually time record.

HD DSTV PVR
Pros: Has 1 HD channel.
Cons: If you cancel your subscription with Multichoice then the PVR function is useless.

Any others?

Could anyone recommend any DVD PVR brands I should look at in the mean time while I decide what to get.

If the DVD PVR has HD upscaling, would this increase the quality of the SD signal if connected to the TV via HDMI?

only one question if u get dvd pvr where are u going to to get your content from yes dstv don't play the best movies around but sure does beat sabc 1, 2 and 3

What I am thinking of at the moment is to record loads of cartoons and movies for my kids then cancel my dstv subscription within a few months time. I only get about 2 or 3 divx movies a month from my brother-in-law. But My understanding is that a DVD PVR with usb can read movies off an external hard drive.
