HD PVR 2P hdmi no sound

Hi all,

So I replaced my sd extra view decoder today with the pvr, fark me the dstv rep on the line was useless.

Anyway I only get video on the hdmi out, no sound.

If I switch to RCA I get video and sound, any ideas? I really wanna run on the hdmi?

Ps I did try another hdmi cable.

Last resort will be to take the decoder to multi choice Tom. By the way, if I only bought it from a store today can I take it back there for a swap or still have to go to the randburg office?
 
That should accept audio then, just to eliminate the TV completely, have you used other HDMI devices via the TV?

And have you updated the PVR software? If you have Box Office (green button) then its the latest version
 
I haven't tried other hdmi devices unfortunately. I did the upgrade and yes remote has box office, accidentally pressed the green button earlier
 
I assume your TV has its own native sound/speakers (usually not very good sound anyway). Make sure hdmi with audio is enabled in audio settings in both the PVR and TV. TV sound normally is only stereo and PVR supports 5.1 channels.
If you want this to work effectively, you should get a 5.1 home theatre system to handle your sound. Blue ray home theatre system prices have come down very nicely lately. You will need an optical cable (from Ellies) to get sound from the PVR to the home theatre system depending on your sound setup (can also be used from the PVR directly to the TV if the TV has an optical input).

Can anyone confirm if I can swap out at the store that I bought it at today or must I go to dstv head office?

Thanks but not interested in that now anyway, just want standard hdmi in to tv and through tv speakers
 
Check the HD2P PVR audio settings

There is a known bug documented on the DSTV forums - http://forum.dstv.com/index.php - where the HD2P decoder loses audio via HDMI.

Check the Audio Settings in the setup menu - change the Surround Sound option to MANUAL from AUTO - then use the LANGUAGE button on your remote to select ENGLISH ORIGINAL or any other audio stream instead of SURROUND SOUND - which it defaults to IRRESPECTIVE of the menu setting for some unfathomable reason.

Also be aware that even if you set the AUDIO OUTPUT to FIXED instead of VARIABLE in the setup menu - that the DSTV decoder volume MUST be set to the MAX setting as well to ensure you are getting sound.
 
FFS must be my tv, just tested another tv on the decoder, plugged hdmi in and boom sound and video

Ok so another tv works perfect with the hdmi video and sound.

And this tv works perfect at the other pvr point with video and sound.

So both are fine, they just don't like each other, now I am lost.
 
is it possible to update the firmware/software of the tv? if so can anyone link me to the correct procedure and software, struggling to find it on samsungs sites
 
Does your TV has an optical input? If so why don't you use that instead. Video via HDMI and sound via optical. And whats wrong with RCA cables (stereo) since you said that 5.1 (home theatre) is not a consideration at this stage.

no i do not see an optical input.

I would prefer to use the hdmi as these tv's only have one working rca input that i want to use for my dvd player. it is a pain switching it out all the time.

plus it is supposed to work with the hdmi so i want it to.
