HD PVR 4P just failed - thanks Eskom

Ah well, my 4P HDD just failed after some load shedding. Will finally need to get an Explora :( I assume I will be to reconfigure Xtraview myself if I get the new decoder which will be primary.
 
MC service centre might be able to fix it or provide you with a refurbished one (they do have those)

/update - see you're in PE, might be a bit of a problem :(

Might not be possible. Taken from the Multichoice website:

UEC 4-tuner HD PVR Decoder Lifecycle

26 November 2014 Multichoice will not be able to repair the UEC 4-tuner HD PVR decoder as the parts are not available any more. Also, these decoders can’t cope with the growing number of DStv services on offer, even though they were able to many years ago. We will also not be able to continue to support the software on these decoders.

When your UEC 4-tuner HD PVR was first released, we only had a handful of channels on DStv – there are now over 100. Your UEC 4-tuner HD PVR has reached the stage where it won’t be able to cope much longer with the growing number of services. Your decoder may experience missing channels, an incomplete TV guide or even freeze-ups.

While your UEC 4-tuner HD PVR is still working, you can keep accessing DStv without having to do anything. It’s only when your decoder stops working, that you’ll need to take action.

When your decoder stops working, you can bring it to one of the MultiChoice Walk-in Centres to trade for a newer model decoder at a reduced price. We’re currently offering the DStv Explora at R1 699 (that’s a R300 discount on the normal purchase price)."

When Eskom starts their BS i unplug what i can. Maybe see if u can find a voltage regulator. Very usefull for saving sensitive equipment when the power goes bonkers. They go for about R700
 
i had to do the same thing in December and it would seem my PS3 also bought the farm :-(
The Explora is a step up and setting up the xtra view is a pain as you have to be on the phone to them to fix this and reconfigure here etc...

I normally do, PC's and TV/media at any rate but I wasn't home when Eskom decided to implement load shedding again :). Anyway I switches the PVR off and when it restarted the HDD was working again. Probably just a matter of time though.

That does sound like a power supply issue, hopefully it lasts a little while
