I've had my HD PVR for over 14 months now, and not only is the device still buggy (it requires daily reboots
), but some really basic functionality is still missing
. I have both a Tivo and an HD PVR... the picture quality of the HD PVR is much better than the Tivo but:
* The Tivo interface for searching for content is infinitely superior - I don't need to know which channel it's on, or what time, just what the content I want is called. I can always find a show in a couple of seconds - even if it's only going to be on in 2 weeks time.
* The Tivo allows me to pick a program once and then elect to record the entire season
* The Tivo let's me elect to record only new shows if I wish (e.g. TopGear)
* The Tivo remote navigation is simple, intuitive and responsive
* Tivo deletes old content on a FIFO basis (unless you've tagged a specific show as "don't delete") - so I never have to panic about the dreaded "90% full"
I posted a similar message to the above, as well as the text below, on the DSTV forums and it took 2 weeks before a Multichoice representative responded. Here's the rest of my original post:
"MCA itv" (the MC representative that responded) seems like a good guy, but my take is that MC simply isn't feeling like there's a real need to invest in rolling out (really basic!) functionality anytime soon - they simply don't feel a need to spend the money to up-resource their dev team.

And if out haven't done so yet, check out Tivo.
I reckon if we make enough noise MC will wake up and give the dev team some resources!!!

Please DSTV team - the Tivo software and hardware is almost 10 years old, yet is superior in almost every way to my HD decoder. I would love to stop using the Tivo (I'm hooked on watching shows in HD with 5.1 sound!) but with the current level of functionality I simply can't...
I haven't even mentioned all the bugs - like so many other users my unit hangs at least once a day requiring a 10 second front panel full reboot... this simply isn't acceptable!
PLEASE GIVE ME SOME HOPE!
