since the hd pvr is blocked with free to air channels, how do I connect a free to air decoder with the pvr on the same dish.

Do I need a 2 input to 4 output splitter.
I suppose you does not get a 2 input to 3 output splitter.

Depends on the PVR setup yiu have installed as well as the type of PVR you have (4 tuner or 2 tuner). The device you will most lilely need is not called a splitter it is called a multiswitch. Give us a little but of more info such ss the type of lnb installed. Whether you have extra view and what type of pvr you have

dual lnb with 2 cables going to decoder.

At decoder, hd pvr, 2 cables coming from lnb.

So I need 1 cable from somewhere to connect pas decoder onto.

2 cables from the LNB can carry 2 polarities. DStv uses only VL and HL and for that reason you can connect multiple DStv decoders through a 2 input switch. Some of the FTA channels are on the high band, on VH and HH. This means two cables from the dish is not enough anymore, because you now have 4 polarities.

My advice to you would be to get a quad LNB and run a 3rd cable from the dish.

Are you sure the channels you want are being broadcast from the same satellite as DSTV? Each free to air job I've been involved in uses the same satellite that Top TV uses, ie Astrsat which is to the north and you really need a 2m dish

2m dish? 90cm for that one... and yes, there are FTA channels on the same satellite as DStv.

The guy I helped had already purchased the satellite receiver and this came with specific instructions on what satellite to use. He could not get the alignment correct, so I was called in.

Is there much worthwhile on the FTA channels on the DSTV satellite? Which receiver do you need?

Nothing worthwhile for me... but worthwhile to some... Any FTA receiver.

www.lyngsat.com for FTA channels available on all satellites.

We supplied some 3.7m dishes to a client on St Helena Island. They pick up DStv Ku from IS20.

That's insane. I'm assuming it's a solid dish and not mesh? Is it true that the ku-band signals don't reflect too well of a mesh dish? Must weigh a ton.

3.7m solid composite prime focus dish. We are actually running a fibre optic LNB on it, with the fibre split to multiple houses.

Because of the higher frequency of Ku-band signals, these signals go straight through C-band mesh dishes.
