Hi
This morning I took the plunge and bought an HD PVR. I see in the instruction manual that it does not support Audio over HDMI, but I heard a rumour somewhere that this was indeed implemented a while ago through software upgrade. Can anyone confirm?
This is my first time having DSTV and I have to wait until next week for the dish installation, so won't be able to test it until then.

Thanks.

What do you mean it doesn't support "Audio over HDMI"?

My HD PVR is connected HDMI and I get audio just fine.

I mean can both the video and audio signals travel through the same HDMI cable. According the the instruction manual, only video go through the HDMI cable and you have to connect a seperate optical cable from the PVR to your home theatre receiver for 5.1 sound.

Yip it does :) Got mine connected via HDMI. Works 100%.

Wonder why the instruction manual says otherwise then. Is it something they updated recently with a software upgrade? If so then maybe they havent updated their instruction manuals yet.

There was always audio via HDMI but 5.1 audio wasn't, this was implemented about 6 months ago via a software update

Normal audio i.e. non 5.1 has always been there on the HDMI cable. Check Smurf's post above..
