I stay in a draconian complex and have to pay R72 per month for the "rental" of the cable from the dish to my satelite. I wish to install a hd pvr decoder and now the Hitlerian dictators say I need an extra cable for another R72 per month. I do not want extra view I only have one tv, so do I need 2 cables from the dish to the decoder?

Afraid so, in fact the 2 cables will need to go into a 2x4 multi-switch, and the 4 cables into the back of the pvr. In the case of extra view a 2x6 multi-switch would be used.

Or if you use 1 cable but put it thru a multiswitch the picture should work but you wont get TV guide info or be able to DL software updates

You need that second cable, unless your complex upgrades the multiswitch system with a single cable conversion system, or run a hybrid of the two.

SatCR will not work in a complex.

R72 per month to "rent" a cable is diabolical! I would take that up with them. Who do you pay that to? The landlord, the caretaker or the managing agents? Do you eventually pay the cable off or is the monthly charge forever?
