Ok so i live in a complex where he dstv signal is barely strong enough to give me normal dstv channels.. like i have to rescan every time i wanna watch top gear on bbc!!!

the body corporate says that even a hd pvr wont work coz the signal strength is so weak..they need to install boosters or some thing.. sigh..
then they say i need to use their installers who will also charge an additional R750 for the mutli-switch.
surely there's a cheaper one available right?

i wont use their installer, i got my own. i know he can hook me up with this multi switch thingie..
but now are they telling me nonsense or what? these bc people?

ask them if you can put your own dish on the roof.

I can imagine that signal quality affects the possible usage of the hd pvr and it also depends on whether you get 2 connections into your place as the hd pvr needs 2 independent lines or like they do it with the multi switch.

I'm just not such a big fan of any sort of boosters because the just amplify the signal and with this they also amplify any distortion that comes with it and not only the 'good' parts of the signal. So why is it even like this? How far away is the dish?

i dont even know where the dish is! it could be anything up to 100metres away!
u right about the boosters man! i think these guys are going to use the mutli switch to do it.

now they tell me certain units signals have been boosted etc- i was like WTF! are they paying more on their levies now or are they just special?
dammit!

That is pretty much annoying. Why don't they just put all boosters in in one go?

So what you can do is interview some people that already got boosted and see if it solves the problem. perhaps it is your decoder that drops the signal? do others have the same problem? does anyone in the complex have a hd pvr?

yea now apparently another guy 2 doors away from me did a hd pvr, and he had issues, so they boosted his signal - i dunno how..
wonder is they stole some of mine to give to him!?
LOL!

yea i'm moeg of this now. told them to send their chaps in to come test my unit.
lets see what happens..

ok so they havent come to see me yet..

I think the 100's channels are HD channels and the rest are for the 'Rest of Africa' (?) Anyone ?

Those are all horizontal channels, so you are only getting vertical channels. Usually a complex setup converts HOR signals to VERT & you then need to enter in network settings to get those converted signals. Ask your neighbour if you can check if he has additional networks enabled on his HDPVR, if he has write down the settings, enter them on yours, do a rescan & then they should all work

We did get a paper where we were given setup info... is that where u add frequencies etc..??
coz i've added alot man..and it still doesnt work!!

Yup that's it, then the only thing I can advise is to double check you've added them correctly & check that your neighbours are working with the same settings
It's usually 5 or 6 extra networks you need to add

ok so i've added it all in.
works fine.
but then the next day i want to watch- the channels are again unavailable!
so i check if the networks i've added are still there: yip!
so then i rescan, and then i can get them again!

imagine I have to rescan now once a day to make sure i get the channels!
sigh!!!!!!

Which decoder do you have?
Do you put the decoder into standby or does it get rebooted overnight?

Set the home network to "Other", instead of "IS7/10". This should keep it stable. If not, PM me the name of the block and the city you live in, and I'll try and get someone to help you...

Hi I just want to know if it's possible to set up a standard pvr up with a new p2 HD pvr so you can view 3 different channels in the 3 rooms at the same time and also have the record option .

I have just done this-yes it is possible. If you have an old smartcard in the SDPVR you have to upgrade it to the latest card to be able to use Xtraview at a cost of R85.Take your card to MC and they will set up the old decoder to view Xtraview.Run a cable from HD PVR RF in or out to the SD PVr RF in(Heartbeat Cable)
