Well if you have SD-PVR currently, then not really. (Unless you're DESPERATE for HD content.)
If not, then definitely.
had to bump this thread up.
hubby bought the HD PVR in 2008 just before the olympics. had it connected etc and so forth. after about a year it started giving problems and phoned the multi choice call center and was told we had to take it in. they reset the decoder and we lost all the recordings.
after a few months it started giving a blue box at the bottom right hand corner - message was hard disk error. unplugged and reset, everything ok for a week. same thing popped up but couldn't reset. had to take the thing in last night.
as we had taken out insurance when we decided to get the PVR, we were given a 2nd hand "fixed" PVR. first one they bought out didn't work. 2nd one they bought out they battled to get the thing to work but as it was closing time we took it. at 2 a.m. this morning, the thing crashed. i went to switch it back on as i was sitting at my computer surfing the net and wanted to watch american idols results show. the thing was dead.
there were so many of these decoders sent back to be repaired and now they are being replaced when people are bringing their "broken" ones in if they have insurance on them.
HD PVR gives you view 1 record 2, unless you combine with a 1110 to get back to view 2 record 2 - and there is talk of a replacement decoder for the 1110 as well coming out some time soon.
The HD decoder is not a replacement for dual view nor is it a replacement for the SD decoder. At the moment all it gives you is the ability to view and record the one HD channel
Is there anything different on the SD channels with HDPVR. E.g. is the screen format the same, still no 16:9 for most of the channels? Anything different in the quality of the SD channels picture?
SD quality is a fair bit better over HDMI
