Hiya,

So yeah...Im tired of waiting for this "new" PVR to be launched...seems like its coming September 2009 now...and thats if we lucky! Getting tired of missing all these shows...so mostly want a HD PVR for recording, HD is a bonus I guess (one channel...whoop dee doo). Pitty the SD PVR is no longer being sold.

I know the HD PVR is fine hardware wise...and that its the software updates that have been causing endless problems. So that got me thinking...if its a software issue...cant a programmer fix it themselves? I mean...surely there is a way to make an update to the software if you have the skills. Im a programmer myself...but mostly web development stuff. So Im sure this would be out of my league...but surely there must be some programmers out there that could "fix" Multichoices stuff ups? If there are...I for sure would run those updates above Mulitchoices?

Any thoughts on this...or is this something thats impossible to do?

Encrypted Source-Code :D

You would probably need a lot of info on the IC's and ASICS in order to work out the firmware -- that may all be proprietory.

I am sure that some bright low level and embedded device programmer could do it -- but then it woud be ILLEGAL

LOL! I would also love a supercharger kit for my car...but hey...dont have R20k for that. $5000...ppl would actually pay that amount for an SDK? Sheesh!

Like Knoop said, you would need the OpenTV SDK, plus an unencrypted version of MC's source code.... since the MC source is built ontop of the OpenTV core and implements things like IrDeto etc etc etc...

You recon they outsource their development for the software updates or they got an inhouse team? Surely they cant be that busy that they cant fix the problems??

VERY good hardware programmers at this level are NOT found on every street corner.

For the BEST you need to pay HEAVENLY bucks :)

Perhaps the "accountants" are not prepared to put these "expenses" on the balance sheet.

They have an inhouse development team..

The guys are good.... but they're horribly overworked from what I know..

I thought i read once on the DSTV forums that they have some code done out of house. they then get it back in for in house testing before release.
