Howzit guys!

I'm very interested to buy a decent HD Video Camcorder within the next few months. My budget is +-R4500. ( I don't want my total including all memory cards to reach above R5000).

A few things that's really important to me would be the Zoom, the memory and warranty.

At the moment I'm looking at the Canon LEGRIA HF R16. It costs around R4k.
The only thing it lacks in my opinion is the Memory. (How many hours could I record in 1080p with 16gb memory? (8gb flash and 8gb internal)).

I'm a big Sony and Canon fan, so I would be uncomfortable buying any other brand.

Thanks

Don't discount Panasonic. I don't know if they make anything great in that price range, but it's possible as they do make good camcorders.

True... I don't have a problem with Panasonic at all. I know they are extremely reliable. But I have to admit, I haven't seen a decent HD one below R6000.

You can do 8 hours at 720p at 16GB, which is still bloody decent.

Another thing, how much would a 20x zoom differ from a 25x zoom?
Reason I'm asking is because I will be filming a lot of surfers - Hence that's one of the reasons I'm looking for a decent camera.

you don't film with it attached... it is for archiving on the go. Are you seriously going to film more than 8GB at a time?

I'm actually very keen to get the Sony HDR-CX150. It's the same as the CX110 except this one has 16gb internal memory. My dad has a contact at a well known Computer supplier, so I can get it near cost price. (R4500 incl.). They don't have the CX110 in their stock list.

Would it be worth the purchase?

I just read the Following on the Sony Website: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...&productId=8198552921666073155#specifications

Operating System Compatibility : "Windows XP SP3 * /Windows Vista SP2 ** /Windows7 * 64-bit editions and Starter (Edition) are not supported. The Windows Image Mastering API(IMAPI)Ver.2.0 or later is required to use the function for creating discs. ** Starter (Edition) are not supported. Standard installation is required. Operation is not assured if the above OS has been upgraded or in a multi-boot environment. "

Does this mean that this camera won't support Windows 7 64bit computers?

Sorry for another question:

If I buy the Sony HDR-CX110 (No internal memory) instead, would a regular card such as TS16GSDHC2 or TS32GSDHC2 work with it?

Thanks!

No. They are too slow. AFAIK you'll need a class 4 or 6.

Ok, sorry for reviving an old topic.

I actually got my camera. I purchased a Sony HDR-CX110 with an 8gb SD card about 3 weeks ago.

I also purchased a little tripod. (Tristar 1932). But now I know why it's so cheap. Panning is not smooth at all! It stutters so badly, as you can see in this video:

Can anyone recommend a decent tripod that wont cost an arm and leg? (eg +-R500?) Specifically for smooth panning. I tried all that weird rubber band methods, Q20 etc, but none of them is working.

Thanks!
