I tried to configure 2 x 80gb seagate drives in raid 0 as my primary boot, but 1 drive sort of failed  Windows shows it does not exist!!
I'm running my 250gb now as my primary, no raid  When I disconnect all drives and connect the faulty 80gb windows doesn't even detect in in bios. I've tried this on another pc .. same. Somehow, a few days after this i managed 2 get it to boot, and loaded xp, but soon thereafter it 'disappeared' again. Any1 know the support details for seagate? Mayb a firmware upgrade?

I assume you mean Bios doesn't detect it... It's likely it's just a warranty swap out if it's less than 3 or 5 years old (can't remember) - hopefully you have the invoice.

dont swop it out man

i had the same problem and did this

start control panel, admin tools computer management click disk manager
select the disk in question right clcik and select delete partition

im not sure what to do again after that but i think you right click again create partition select a drive letter and format

if it does not work swop it out

If the Bios doesn't detect it then that won't help... (is it SATA?)... if it's just windoze on the other hand...

It wont show in the bios for a few reasons

your bios thinks the drive is still in raid, your mobo thinks raid is still running

try what i said and see if the drive is there, the drive is still thinking its in raid and thus wont show up in the bios

It is SATA. I would definitely try n use disk management if i can get doze 2 pick it up. I think killadoob is rite tho, cause the mobo still thinks it's in raid mode and therefore does not pick it up. Gonna try and do a mobo f/ware upgrade to default all values, hopefully then this shud disable the 'raid state.' ;)
BTW groundnut.. dont kno wtf i was thinking "windows doesn't even detect in in bios" rofl ! Was tired then so wrote a bit of krapp..

no more than likely a bios reset or upgrade wont help because the drive thinks its still in raid

you need to delete the partition first, you wont get windows running with hdd ever, you need to load windows up and follow steps via a new hdd and fresh install

If I cud get doze 2 pick up the 80gb then there would b no problems, but i cant! Any1 has a contact for seagate? Or does the supplier have 2 take it in for repairs? (supplier only warrants 12 months!)

If you go into your RAID configuration (when the machine POSTs), do you see the drive?
Does your BIOS have an option to configure SATA as RAID? If so, turn it off.

no dude take it back man, i also had a hdd that did not work the way ive suggested and rectron swopped it out

well your supplier sucks as do most because im sure most seagate's have 3 - 5 years not 12 months

I hear u man but i'm pretty much in a hole  supplier only guarantees 12 months  BTW i've tried everything possibly in the bios to get the drive to at least show itself but nothing  FFS will try and get hold of seagate to get the supplier to do a swop.. Damn raid!!!

ok so i go to seagate support website and confirm with my serial number that my drive is indeed under warranty and i am elligable for a swop out, so i click on this link and have a chat with a guy from the states with regards to my issue... he also confirms the warranty and states that the dealer HAS to swop out the unit under warranty so he mails me a reference number to take to the dealer... cool ;)

I HAVE learnt my lesson... If u wanna run Raid 0 be prepared to possibly lose a drive :p Performance does come at a price ... ;) In a few months i shud be running 2 x wd raptors on Raid 0. Purely for the raw power ..

well if you run raid 0 you should not store important info on it at all

you use raid 0 for windows program's etc not for storage

if one does fail its aint a big thing just replace and redo everything, now if you storing stuff on the drive you've got a problem a big problem

Rite on killad... my plan is 2 run 2 x raptors 74gb as primary purely for my os, i have a 250gb for storage. That shud give me a substantial performance boost as it';s my primary :D
