Hi,

I installed my new WD 1TB drive yesterday and just wanted to comment on two points I'd asked about previously :

Noise : A 1TB HDD is actually slightly more noisy than a 500GB. I'd previously read a larger HDD does generate more noise and heat - but it seemed to be debatable.

Cache : I've also read somewhere that there is a plateu on the HDD cache size. Apparantly the difference between 8MB and 16MB is relativly large, but thereafter it tapers off and the difference is minor. However, this WD has a 32MB cache and is much quicker than the Seategate 500GB previously!

From now on, I think I'll pay more attention to HDD cache ;)

my 1tb green wd is much quieter and cooler than all the seagates . . .

and then i have a 80gb hitachi ide drive that's as loud as a buffalo stampede

Yea I got that 1TB Green one ... very 'cool' HDD ;)
