I'm going to get myself a new harddrive and I was wondering if I could copy my main harddrive directly over to my new harddrive. I have a 40gig ATA HDD and I'm going to get a 160gig SATA. Is it possible to copy the HDD that has the OS and program files on, onto a new harddrive without destroying everything? I'm kinda sure Partition Manager 8 has a 'Clone HDD' app.
Any help?

you can download Hiren's bootcd (80mb) and get several apps that can do the job, or go opensource and use G4U.

Why not rather keep the original hard-drive as the 'system' drive and all the other files (which you don't want to lose in a format) on the other?

I'm getting another DVD-ROM and I already have a HDD and a DVD-RAM using IDE. So I want to use the two IDE plugs (not sure what you call them) for my roms and SATA for my HDD's

1 IDE cable can handle 2 devices, normally you'd put your hdds on primary IDE and your optical drives on your secondary. SATA works on its own and wont conflict with IDE at all.

No Secondary IDE port? Hey, the way I see it +/-190GB is better than +/-150GB

My motherboard only supports 1 IDE cable. I downloaded Paragon Partition Manager 8 and it has a HDD copy function. I'll try it out when I get my harddrive. Thanks for the help.
