HDD DVD Recorders

I need to get another for mother dear.
Her existing one (LG) seems to be playing up.

What is available ?
I recall when sending one of mine (phillips) in for repair, they told me the movie industry were trying their utmost to kill these recorders off.

Mine won't record any of the DStv HD channels, have even tried using an RF connection. Haven't seen them in the shops in ages either.

As for as I know the HDMI signal is encrypted hence you can record onto HDD recorder. I think your only option is to use the RF signal - but no HD

Panasonic made excellent units but don't think you can get them anymore.
