I bought a new USB3.0 HDD and every time I try to connect it to my USB3.0 port it powers up then loses the connection.
If I connect it to a USB 2.0 port it works fine. What could be the issue?

I have exactly the same problem with my external hdd, wasn't able to fix it unfortunately. Are you using windows 8?

I found some 3rd party external enclosures with a same problem.

Seems that the firmware for the enclosures needed upating.

Once I had done that, all was good.

got this info from another site:

you need to install the USB 3 drivers.

Download this : http://www.3dpchip.com/3dpchip/3dp/chip_down_en.php

Open it up and you will see your components and info about them, click on your motherboard, you will be taken to a link for drivers for it. Don't install the latest, there will be a link below it that specifies "Older but stable" if you are using intel. (This should be enough to fix it)

If that brings no joy
Go down to "ETC" on the menu there, click the green arrow next to it, and there should be specific drivers for USB3"
