I've got 2 hard drives(160GB IDE & 30GB IDE)
I want to boot from the 160GB hard drive but my computer keeps booting from the 30GB.

Everything in bios is set correctly, boot priority and all but it still keeps setting my 30GB HDD as the Master and the 160GB HDD as the slave???

Can anyone help??

Firstly, since it's IDE, are the jumpers correct on both drives? Both drives not set as Master on the jumpers?

the 30GB has jumpers and the 160GB does not, how do i set the jumpers?

Theres a sticker on the top of the HDDs that show what jumper orietation sets the drive to Master/Slave/Cable Select.

Try setting the jumpers so that the 160GB is master and the 30GB is slave (or cable select) and then change the BIOS settings to which one you want to boot from.

If you have XP installed on the 30, then the master boot is being picked up from there AFAIK.

From my personal experience with jumpers, if the one is set to Master w/slave then the second HDD doesnt require jumpers.

From my experience always set the one drive as master and the other one as slave. When both hhd is set on cable select the plug on the end of the ide cable must be plugged into the master and the plug in the middle into the slave

thanks guys, i set the 1 HDD as master and removed the other HDD jumper and it works perfectly, thanks for all the help...:)
