I just got myself a 500GB hard drive which looks fine, so I'm going to transfer everything there. But my other 160GB has been giving me a LOT of problems recently. I'm just wondering if someone can give me an opinion whether it just needs reformatting clean or if it's a hardware issue and I can take it in for warranty. Otherwise I'll just sell it off now.

Basically it stutters all the time now. If it's in the middle of doing another activity, the mouse will freeze constantly while it's moving across the screen. Everything is a lot slower than it feels like it should be.

Do you need more details? Anyway if I know it's a hardware thing then I'll just take it back for warranty, that's not a problem. But I'm not going to be bothered to reinstall Windows just to test it out again.

Have you done a SMART diagnosis on the drive? It seems like it's running in PIO mode instead of DMA, which means it could be faulty drivers as well. Have you tried it on another pc?

Try this free SMART diagnosis program to check for possible hardware problems with the drive.

Driver/setting issue...or failing to read it.

You hear any physical sounds coming from the hdd when it stutters?

Another program u can try is speedfan, it has a little drive analysis which tell u the health of the drive...simple and handy :)
