Hi Guys,

I am looking for a HDD video camera, something like the Sony DCR-SR47e. Can you recommend similar products? Also can you recommend some places I can go and compare prices.

Preferably online stores or someone who will offer shipping, as I am stuck in Bloemfontein.

Thanx.

Camera

Hi, I bought myself the canon sx20is camera because I wanted a camera more than a video camera, although the sx20is does have 720p video(limited to 30minutes max shooting per video) the Panasonic fz35 does not have this limit.

I am looking for a video camera with more precise controls for smoother videos that i will buy in the next year or so, so please let me know what you decided on.

I bought my camera at Orms.co.za in Cape Town, they do have shipping as well.
This site also helped: sacamera.co.za
Both have the video camera just above the one you are looking at.

The person who recommended orms.co.za to me also pointed me to outdoorphoto.co.za, although that forum is more for cameras

sorry if this post was useless to you. Hope you find what you are looking for.

I just got the Sony SX44S. I found the best prices to be retail stores.

BTW the SR47 is old model (60GB), the new model is 80GB. But HiFi has the cheapest price on this one (SR47).

Anyway, I went Flash instead of HDD as the HDD will cut out if you pump it too much. Since i take movies of running after my little one in our local nature reserve (walking trails) and want to use it for my mountain biking, the HDD version was not an option.

I also tried all the cameras and I like the Sony the most as it was easy to use and functional. Touch screen makes it easier to navigate and you can flip the screen (something most other could not). Also my wife figured it out.

We got ours 2 weeks ago and very very happy with it.

If you go flash, do not get SD Cards till you at least get an idea of how much memory you really use between uploads to your PC. The 4GB internal is about an hours recording time. I found it to be fine for now but will most likely settle on 8GB cards - personal preference.

Oh guys, if you got a Deon Wired then go check out the cameras there. Only place that has them on display and fully working. Even though DW where not the cheapest (GAME was R100 cheaper), I ended buying from DW out of principle.

But yeah, it makes a massive difference to try them out before you buy.

I ended up buying the Sony DCR-SR68 80GB Handycam from a local electronics store. Going to give it a bash this weekend.

But it will mostly be used by the girlfriend, she needs to record therapy sessions with her clients. It will sit on a tri-pod with the charger plugged in recording all day. So I think the 80gb drive will work well.

I will post back with comments after the weekend.
