so i have 2 questions, 1 might be simpler than the other.

1) i have a xbox 360 slim console (a black 4gb), and 2 weeks ago i bought a new lg led tv. as both had hdmi connectors, do i need to buy an xbox branded hdmi cable, or with any hdmi cable do? as there is no point in having a hd tv, but not playing in hd right.

2) i am clueless when it comes to networks etc, so i want to hook my xbox up to the net. i have a wifi router (that telkom supplied), and i can get my gfs laptop and our cellphones to work through the wifi connection but not my xbox. the 2 can "see" each other but thats it, i can't connect to xbox live, or even stream anything

Any HDMI cable will work

Are you sure the Xbox has DHCP enabled?

If its a stupid telkom router, chances are slim that its has wireless N. If you wanna use your xbox wirelessly, wireless N is better than G which your router may be. If you planning on gaming online, connect a LAN wire rather, much more faster and stable.

You can use any HDMI cable.

Have you tried to test your connection under settings?

I game using wireless and it works fine for me. My router is sitting upstairs and my xbox sits downstairs. It is using wireless-N though which does make a huge difference.

What games are you going to be playing? I game using wireless even though the signal is not great and it works fine

If you go into settings -> Network settings, there is an option to test your wired\wireless connection. It will go through a series of tests .i.e. connect to your network, connect to the internet, connect to xbox live, etc. It should return an appropriate error.
It will sign your xbox account out before performing the network test, so you dont need the xbox account for testing the network connection.

so i did the "test connection to pc" and worked fine, then tried the "test xbox live" which failed...i went into advanced options, and changed the dns from manual (which someone once helped me setup) to automatic....and re-perfomred the test, and now it is s/l some update from xbox live

this is all good

but i am sure this happened once before, and only worked once until a restart of both systems....so once update is done i'll restart
