I am looking for a solution to a strange problem which started last year.I have a laptop which is connected to my 50 inch tv permanently.Reason being that the screen light is flickering.
The problem i am having is before when i booted the laptop up the tv screen immediately showed the laptop screen and you could see "stuff" on the screen and you could see grub menu and windows boot loader etc etc.But now you cant see the boot loader no more on the tv but it appears on the laptop screen now.

I have a dual boot system so i used to love seeing these things on the tv to see what OS i want to boot in,but its not like this no more as i have to guess which one by pressing the down arrow now as the tv dont display this no more.
The only time the the tv display the laptop is when windows or Ubuntu boots :when you see that loading rings or icons booting up and then all is good.

I dont know where it all went wrong but it started last year. The drivers for the laptop is all good for the hdmi.I dont know what could cause this and how to fix it as this is a hardware setting for lenovo hdmi setting and nothing to do with software as windows and ubuntu only loads drivers for hdmi display when the OS boots.

I checked my tv settings and i checked bios but i cant see what is different. Can anyone suggest something different.thanks all

If the BIOS screen does not show on boot you need to log a ticket with the laptop vendor. On some BIOS you can also see output via the serial port.
Grub has the ability via settings on the command line to display second screens.

Oh sorry i forgot to mention that when i use a vga cable and connect to the tv from the laptop all is good ,the laptop boots up and i can see everything immediately on the tv.Weird

Ok but sometimes i also need to see before grub like boot order when i want to boot a bootable usb to do something like checkra1n or boot ramdisk pwned stuff..etc.etc.
I cant see these no more as they appear on the flickeing laptop screen.
Will it be hard to customize grub to do what you mentioned.

I would suggest you use VirtualBox for what you trying to do. Far easier. If you do it in grub you'll have a mess.
You can also just repair the screen. My son does those repairs as an intern at Lonehill Computers.

I see checkra1n does not work in a VM.
I use seperate x86 appliances for dodge software.
I even bought a cheap R800 device on Bidorbuy that works a treat and which is easy to trash and reinstall.

i tried vm's all flavors. It just dont work this is why i have dual boot with linux and hacintosh..lol/
I see bios is not displayed on the tv no more..before i could enter bios and see it on the tv but now its on the laptop screen...ayhaaaa

Actually I think there's a setting in the bios that fixes this depending on the laptop. Whats the laptops model number and make lets check if this is the case. This issue also happens on desktop PCs and can be fixed depending on the make and model.
