G'Day guys; need some useful advise once again.

I will need a new DVD Player; my budget does not stretch to allow a Blu-ray Player; its not a biggie for me as well. I am looking at a decent yet affordable HDMI DVD Player that plays all formats and has a USB input; very important as I will be watching .avi series from my flash drives.

I found two decent options on special at Makro and I am torn between the two...advice will be greatly appreciated...

A Samsung DVD-D530 HDMI Player at R399 http://www.makro.co.za/p/49826/samsung-hdmi-dvd-player/

OR

A Philips DVP-3880 HDMI Player also at R399 http://www.makro.co.za/p/53049/philips-hdmi-dvd-player/

Full specs for the Sammy is: http://www.samsung.com/africa_en/consumer/tv-audio-video/dvd/dvd-player/DVD-D530/XA & Philips is http://www.philips.co.za/c/blu-ray-dvd/dvp3880k_98/prd/

What do you think will be best for my needs?! Does anyone own one of these models?

Lastly pushing my luck here but do you think these models can play .mp4 files?

Thanks again

Looks like the Philips plays MPEG-4. Why not take a flash drive with snippets of the various formats you want to play and test it in-store ?

Dont have either but have always had good experiences with Samsung and from the link you gave looks like it plays mp4 too.

Not what you want to here but If not in too much of a hurry why not save up another 4 or 500 bucks and get a decent low end blu-ray (personal preference Samsung BD-D5100) or at least a DVD player that can play MKV files(doesn't look like the ones mentioned can play MKV)
