Looking for a HDMI Switch

I'm looking for an HDMI switch for switching between 4 devices and has an Infra-Red input for easy access.

I've found some by Octava but I can't find any locally.

4 x 1 HDMI Switch with Optical Toslink Routing -V1.3 Full 1080P with Deep Color Support $249

5 x 1 HDMI Switch - V1.3 Full 1080P with Deep Color Support $169.99

UPDATE: I found one from HDCabling
5X1 Enhanced HDMI Switch with built-in Equalizer R699

The Monoprice seems to be my best bet, click here for a review.

I see that you have found our website so no need to comment. We stocked Monoprice type switches previously as in the image on the website, but some sources/displays were incompatible and we switched to another manufacturer which provides mini-HDMI switches that are compact (uses normal HDMI ports) and do not require external power since it feeds from the power on the display and source. We have found no HDCP incompatibilities up to now with the new range of switches. There is still stock on the mini-HDMI 5x1 switches and the website image will be changed soon to reflect the new product image. Specifications are the same and it supports deep color and HDMI v1.3 and has a IR remote to switch between sources.

Hi thiartj or anyone, is this true from Octava.
- External Powering: It is important that the HDMI switch is powered independently from a dedicated power source. Some HDMI switchers are powered directly from the HDMI cable to save cost, however this could load down the power from the HDMI source. The power carried on the HDMI cable is intended to power the internal EDID PROM inside the TV which stores the TV's capabilities. It is not intended to power up external devices.

The EDID on a display is used when determining display capabilities to limit the source to show compatible resolutions only supported by the end display. Low power HDMI sources (0.5v DDC, 5.0v TMDS) may not be able to provide power to the HDMI switch, but most devices in SA (HDPVR, PS3, Xbox 360 and most Blu-ray players) does provide normal HDMI voltages (1.0-1.2v DDC, 5.0v TMDS) which is sufficient to power the switch. It has an external connector as well and we supply the AC/DC adapters separately in case your sources/display do not provide enough power to the device. No such a case has been reported and all current customers who purchased these switches in the past are using it without external power, but there is the option to provide external power to the switch if it is needed. According to my knowledge the EDID on any display are powered by the LCD/display when powered on since even with VGA/DVI cables on older PC graphics card the EDID capabilities to show the Plug and play supported resolutions is read from the EDID when the display is powered on to check which resolutions are supported. This is the same for HDMI sources/displays and for example when powering on a Xbox 360 it will not start if it cannot read the EDID information from the display e.g when the display if powered off completely and HDMI only is used.

Silver82, yes we used to stock another type for compatibility reasons with HDCP on different LCD's, but the current model we stock on the link you provided is the only 5 x 1 we stock and we did not have complaints from any customers regarding compatibility. Even so, some customers who had a HDCP Error 15 on their HDPVR that was directly connected to a LCD (HDPVR handshake problem with the LCD) inserted one of these switches between their HDPVR and the LCD and the problem was solved. We also have 4 x 2 (Matrix switches) - In Stock which can take 4 source devices and split the sources independantly to 2 LCD's and source input/output is controlled via remote. The 3 x 1 switches will be in stock in about 4-6 weeks again. 5 x 1 switches are in stock.

We operate as an online E-commerce business and use Shop nr2 (Qmaster shop), Cnr of Hendrik Verwoerd and galway, Hennopsark, Centurion as a collection facility. The online system generates an invoice and order # only and cash on collection or prepaid electronic transfer is accepted if it needs to be posted. Orders need to be submitted online to be processed and will be dispatched within 8 business hours.

Thanks.

I have a PS3, xbox 360, DVD upscaler, and may one to add one or two other components to my Sony Bravia, which only has one HDMI port. Would you recommend the one I quoted above, or can you advise on a better/more suitable product?

If you need to expand in future to split your sources to multiple LCD's (Most customers do this to bedrooms especially for PS3/Xbox with wireless controllers) your best bet will be a 4x2 switch (4 sources, 2 LCD's) which can show 2 different sources on each LCD. If you purchase a 5 x 1 switch and need to split the signal in future, you can add a 1x2,1x4 or 1x8 splitter onto the 5x1, but then the same source will be distributed to all LCD's and it cannot be assigned independently to a display. It is not recommended to stack beyond 3 layers of HD Repeaters (e.g Upscaler --> Amp --> Switch --> Splitter is already 4 layers) Please PM me for the website links since according to forums rules I cannot post it if you need the 4x2 True Matrix switch link.

I've bought the 4x2 HDMI switch hope for good results lol.

The switch is working 100's and now we don't get that stupid "HDCP IS NOT SUPPORTED" message on our HD PVR anymore, quite fast at switching. Have to thank Johan for finding the parcel for me at my useless Post Office, the people had it for a week and didn't know it was on their shelves.
