Head gasket blown?

Never said that! I left the car in Hyundai - Paarden Eiland, they're supposed to do a quote this morning. I guess it will be way more exepensive than a garage, but they give a guarantee of a year on the fixing...

errrrr,

please read their T & Cs. It will be one year on the part and typically 3 months on the actual labour.

meaning if it breaks after 3 months they can and will charge labour again while changing the part.

oh,

and they are likely to call you at 4pm with the quote, that has been my experience, more than once. That is if they are like their sister branches in jo'burg.

:( ok... and do you think it will be WAY MORE expensive than a garage? Like 2x or 3x the price?

most likely, it shouldn't take more than a day to replace a head gasket. A garage may charge you a daily labour rate of around R1200 whereas Hyundai will most likely charge you R600 per hour.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies. No I'm still in Cape Town. Hyundai found lots of problems on my car
- head gasket blown, that's for the over heating
- subframe and lower control arm bushes damaged, that's for the strange sound I heard and also for the wheel alignment
- clutch (i suspect them to have put this in addition to charge me)

Obviously the quote was R30.000 so I freaked out. I called the dealer who found me the Tucson, because I bought this ****ty car 1 month ago only. This dealer bought the car from a seller who seemed not to be really honest, and he was angry of that... So the dealer told me to make the HG fixed, drive back and then he will take back the car for me and find me a new one.

So I brought yesterday the car to another garage, they will fix the head gasket for monday (hopefully cos i need to work in Joburg next week) and then i drive back and i get rid of this car...

Thanks for your help, guys... I feel stupid to having buy a ****ty car and hope i won't lose too much money on this matter...

Can a foreigner benefit from cpa and is he still in the cooldown period. Screw fixing that. Its the dealers problem. And imho. that dealer knew there is problems. Backhand roadworthy is my guess.

To change ownership they require roadworthy and subframe issues will fail roadworthy.

I remember almost buying an Accent many years ago and the Head Gasket was on it's way out yet the car drove like magic. The seller tried to flog it off for the full price instead repairing the blown gasket because those things cost half the value of the car. I hope your next vehicle is properly checked by the dealer this time round.

Also it seems to me like some of our secondhand Hyundai's are imported into the country by Hyundai themselves.

I need to fix that...I can't leave the car in CPT :(

Well, I'm not sure as a foreigner that I can benefit from CPA, unfortunately. I have to rely on the writing message of the dealer who said that he will take back this car and find me a new one.

Speaking of that, does anyone has a good garage to recommend me in Randburg/Roodeport (I stay in Linden) to do a ful check-up of my future car before buying it?

Thanks again for all your help :)

I used to frequent Boss Auto clinic. Max was the owner back then. If he is still there. Give him a shout. Just down the road from PC International.

I don't see that the buyer's nationality has anything to do with the CPA, surely it governs transactions that take place in South Africa, irrespective of the nationality of the buyer or seller.
