Headlight bulb cover. Can it be removed?

Not sure how to call it. I bought a second hand Alfa recently. Evrything is tip top except the lights. I have bought new bulbs and after loosing a bit of skin to get them in, no change. The lights are extremly dim compared to my other vehicle. Both vehicles use the same H7 bulbs.

I reckon if I remove the cover that is infront of the bulb it will be brighter.

View picture, not sure how to call that cover. Its the bulb on the right hand side.

It ain't gonna make any difference. The light cast onto the road emanates from the length of the bulb, which is then reflected by the concave inside surface of the headlight. That cover is just to shield the bright filament from being visible directly from the front.

I'd suggest you have the lights properly checked out - maybe there isn't enough voltage coming through. If the circuits all check out, invest in something like a set of Nightbreaker globes.

Hmm. Both, th H7 for the Alfa and the H7 for the Focus are from Osram and both are Nighbrakers.
I was thinking of the Voltage, but the main beam works perfectly.

I've got the same issue with my old(er) :o 5-series - dims look like candles, brights look like 747 landing lights... :mad:
 
you may need to fit relays (even though your brights are fine),as their might be a voltage drop that is causing your dims to shine very dull

any decent auto electrician can do it for you

failing that, consider the cheapo xenon kits you can buy foir approx R800, should improve the situation if you are willing to go that route
 
Import higher wattage bulbs. A few years ago you could still buy them locally but it's now illegal from what I have been told.
 
It's a 156.

I don't see the point in getting higher watt bulbs. Like I mentioned before, my Focus has the exact same bulbs and it shines 20m further and is twice as bright. Will get the voltage checked out 2m.

High beam and fog lights shine 100% though. Maybe it's a Alfa 156 bug :D
 
what height do you have them set at ? cause that could be why they are looking low :)

my alfa's lights look fine!

I think 0. Last night I placed both cars facing a wall with the lights switched on. They both shined at about the same hight, but the lights of the focus was much much brighter. I will make a pic tonight with both vehicles standing against the wall with dims on.
