Headphones | Earphones

Questions:

1) For mobile use (phone, MP3 players, etc) do you prefer headphones or earphones? Why?

2) What brand/make do you prefer? Why?

3) Is active (electronic) noise cancelling worth paying extra for?

4) What role do you see the Ohm value playing in the selection of earphones/headphones for mobile use?

These questions apply to music and audio book listening ... not gaming.

1) Headphones, far comfier.

2) Sennheiser

3) Perhaps, if you're in a built up environment. Both my Sennies are open design and leak sound, so better for personal listening.

4) It plays a huge role since your average 3.5mm ports do around 40Ohm. Attaching higher ohm 'phones will result in poorer sound etc.
 
a) Office - iPod earphones as they do not block out all other sounds
b) Gym - Sennheiser - blocks out all the other sounds around me

Which Sennies do you use? I use the PX200 II ... love it to bits.

I was told that the higher ohm ranges - above 30 - cause sound distortion (ie poor quality) from cell phones (like my Note) due to the very small amp in these devices. True? I was told to go for lower ohm values (like 20) to get better sound quality on cell phones.

Sennheiser HD595 & HD650. So they're around the ear headphones. IIRC PXxxx are in-ears/buds?

Yeah sounds right according to the Layman. Your Note probably does around 40Ohm. I would look for a pair of 32Ohm ear/headphones, a very common Ohm rating and best for all round use with un-amplified ports.
 
Beats by Dr Dre worth the money? I see them everywhere these days and people pay huge prices for them.

I also see it that way, but those who own them swears by them.

With Volume+ on my Android devices I can get the "Beats effect" on any earphones|headphones anyway, but purists will say it is not the same thing.

1) Because of the on cord buttons for forward/back Awnser and hang up I use stock HTC that came with the phone.
2) If I buy its Sennheiser
3) Dont know much about it, but then it might be becuase of the earphones I do buy
4) See above

For Games or general Music listening at home I use Sennheiser PC 360 because of the mic, had 350 before them but age claimed its toll.(Material Cover started to flake, but after 4 years I did not expect em not to)

My Sennheiser PX100's do so well that it is still in use at home after many years despite not having had ear cushions for years LOL! It's most def not comfy any more but the sound quality is just so good for such a light set of headphones.

Thats the thing, some material will fail waaay before the sound quality does.

If I really wanted to I could have just recovered the cushions or clean em up a bit. Was not uncomfortable or anything, it just looked dated so I got a new pair.
 
Your experiences with Sony? I bought a set of Sony in-ear earphones for R300 a few weeks ago when I urgently needed a pair on the move and I must say I was quite surprised by the good sound quality.

My friend had a pair of the Diddy Beats and honestly, no significant difference between them and a pair of basic SkullCandy earphones. And this was on multiple mobile devices.

Oh, and the supposedly untangleable cable broke. Waste of money IMO. Maybe there are others that feel differently.
 
I find the earphones that comes with phones - even high end ones like I got with my Note - to have poor sound quality.

I HATE Sony's in ear crap.... I can not stand them in my ear long enough to finish a single trac.
