I exist only in my own mind ...
The disk in my SD PVR failed and it's impossible to get hold of an IDE drive. I also did not fancy the SATA solution, as elegant as it is.

So I took the PVR to Mutichoice and for R342 they swapped it for a refurbished one with a 3 month warranty.

As R350 is less than the cost of a disk drive, I think this is good value.

P.S. I suspect that the 3 month warranty may have to be extended in the light of the consumer protection act.

R342 is the standard swop out fee for all decoders if you dont have DCC

Even when you have Decoder care you have to wait for 3 months for it to kick in completely. If you have an issue in the first 3 months you still pay the swap out fee. Found out the hard way recently. Decoder packed up in the second month after adding decoder care plan.

And why wouldn't your decoder be covered by your normal household insurance for theft and fire?

Most thieves wouldnt bother stealing it unless they stupid.
Has no resale value as you cannot use it ;)

Then you need to get rid of your broker and Mutual and Federal...

The decoder is a household object, and would be covered by any normal household insurance policy for fire and theft...

I would very def be more than slightly pissed off.. it may be useless to steal it as it will have little to no value for the thieving party... but it has value to you, and THATS what M&F are insurance... your value.. not the value to the thieving party.
