Headset - Entry level

The Redragon ZEUS is excellent bang for buck. I think you can get them now for sub-R1000. You can also check out their DIOMEDES which is a little bit more affordable.

As far as ear cups go, all of these with their pleather at this price range will deteriorate within the short-to-medium period of use. This is applicable to every brand.

Yeah my son has a pair of those he bought himself, actually aren't bad a bit bassy but for gaming it's good and it was about R800 at the time

There was a time that I couldn't stop recommending the Cooler Master MH751/752 because it was a "Takstar" headset. They initially launched at under R1000, but then surged past that price point. Now you can't even get them any more. A fantastic gaming headset, and okay for monitor use.

The Redragons, well, those mentioned are good value. It is just that their custom tuning isn't fit for all-purpose, but for gaming you won't have buyers remorse. There is a ZEUS model that doesn't have pleather ear cups.

I am speaking as someone who has a range of stereo headphones. The only gaming headset I have is an Arctis Nova 7x, and I don't even game with them. Also, also a bit too heavy on the bass and muddy, but using some equalisation magic they aren't too bad for watching movies, wirelessly.

Not a single headset or headphones have been able to replace my Philips SHP9500 for gaming. It is just perfect.

Well he is going to be using the headphones on the Xbox so it should do well there

The only two things that Redragon are good at is keyboards and headsets. This is not applicable to the overall range of their products. The Deimoss and Draconic Pro are both very good keyboards if available and priced accordingly. Most of their headsets are good, but most of it below R600 is junk. Nobody on this Earth can convince me that they have good mice.

That is all I have to say of the brand. For starter gear, and value, they are ticking the boxes.

As far as headphones/headsets go, it is not about the price, neither the frequency response. It is just a baseline. If you know your budget, you can get a very good headset that will last you years without overspending. If you want to upgrade, there are a load of quality and portable DACs available today that is dirt cheap that will make a modern motherboard jealous.

Hi All, I am looking at buying an entry level headset for my son. He plays games on an xbox. I don't want to spend too much money as he is no pro gamer. Any suggestions or recommendations?
Bluetooth or wired and what area?

The Phoenix is actually a pretty decent little mouse, ambidextrous as well. Strangely enough the keyboard is what failed of theirs for me.

SteelSeries Arctis Nova 1, 5, 7
Razer BlackShark V2
I have the Audeze Maxwell, but those are studio-grade enthusiast headsets.

I won't know of the Phoenix, but the M690 and M916 PRO are... there are better options, even from premium brands. I guess for the price it is okay, though I would hard pass on the M916.

The only Redragon keyboards I recommend are the K630, K530, and K599.

Anyhow, OT. There is one more headphone that can be considered, though it isn't wireless, and Evetech sell them too, it is the IKON ALPHA 3D.

In fact, this is a super price for it:

I would get the official xbox one, it is currently on black Friday special
