Hi all.
Tired of having no mic at home so want to get a headset for gaming / skype calls etc.
Looking at the Sennheiser GSP300 or 350. The 350 is USB and has 7.1 blah blah.

USB vs 3.5mm?
Some years ago (10 or more) I swore I would never get another 3.5mm headset as the mic volume was soft and problematic.
Had a Corsair USB headset was great but died after 5 years.
Currently got 3.5mm Sennheiser earphones (no mic) and they are decent.

The GSP300 is a bit cheaper and compatible with everything but will I have **** again with the mic? Especially using onboard sound (I have a mid-range MSI mobo - nothing fancy but it is quite new - coffee lake). Reviews (loads available) are all positive so I think they should be fine? Surely not everyone has a hectic sound card.

Grab a corsair void 7.1.. has a USB adaptor, so you can have compatibility with everything.. I have had no complaints with mic volume from people on the other end of TS, Discord Skype etc..

My Plantronics RIG something headset had a softer mic than my GSP 300, if I remember correctly. For both I had to up the gain in the windows settings, but the GSP 300 still sounds great.

I had a quick look at these but it seems like stock might be an issue. And the Sennheisers apparently sound way better according to reviews.

I guess the question of the day is are people having success with 3.5 audio (including input) with a normal motherboard? I don't need studio quality but my last experience was pathetic.

I did buy mine two or three years ago..

Before that I had a cooler Master though, 3.5mm jacks only and I never had any complaints on the mic volume there.. never had to adjust gain anywhere..
