Hearty Oxtail Recipe?

Oxtail isn't cheap anymore, ostrich neck is cheaper and works just as well.

Please explain? Kinda lost me there :o

Sorry yeah the onion and that is optional, the idea is not to eat that if you do put it in. It's an old recipe so alternatively tie the herbs and whatnot in cloth so you can take it out after.

Also has anyone tried Kangaroo tail? Only had it once and also can't find it again. It's almost the same just the bones are a bit foreign.

Let the cooking commence, just got all the ingredients, oxttail was R60/kg.

Gonna be interesting, recipe calls for 150ml wine which means I have 600ml left to entertain myself with, go Floyd! :D

Try to get your hands on a bouquet garni, easier than doing the onion thing. most spice shops should have it.

The wine is really good :D Everything is in the pot simmering away for 2hrs before going into the oven.

Ja, must get/make one. I will just pick the twigs out afterwards, the leaves fall off which I really don't mind.

Made stuff up with the onions, got carried away and chopped them into quarters. After that I just chucked whole garlic cubes into the pot.

Did I mention the wine is good..?

nah, you get ones that come in a muslin pouch. just chuck it in the pot and take it out again when it's done cooking.

Cool, recipes are guidlines only :P

Thanks though.

Did not have time to strain & cool stock so just scooped the oil/fat of the top and popped straight into the oven for total cooking time of 6h30. Then I forgot to add the celery & leeks which I had already cut, must have been the wine :o

what in heavens name is all this nonsense of - fry in oil, season this, bake that blah blah blah.

i like to make my meals quick and easy and tasty thank you very much and nothing beats an oven and those packets of soup.

take however much oxtail you needing.
chop up an onion or 2.
mix about 500 mls of water with a packet of oxtail or brown onion soup. throw over onion and oxtail - in a casserole dish put in oven about 180 degrees and cook for about 2 hours. stirring every now and again.
last hour - add chopped butternut.
voila!!!!!! serve on mashed potatoes bobs yer uncle fanny's yer aunt.
meal done tasty and delish.

Damnit, I want oxtail now... you bunch of evil bastards!! :D

Think I need to make some tonight, especially since my housemate won't be there to nag at me for cooking meat (damn her and her crusade to convert everyone to vegetarianism!!)
