hi,

hyundai accent '98 driver here

while driving my heat indicator goes from cool to hot and back quickly as i drive. This starts after i have done 5km or so.

I replaced the old rusted thermostat, and heat sender unit. Also have a new radiator installed.

What could be causing this.

Any advice?

I would like to know too. Mine jumped immediately into the red with a cold start. After a while it also started fluctuating. The switch and thermostat was replaced to no avail. I bought a new heat gauge and was working honky dory...for a week. Back to square one. Car going back to the mechanics this weekend

Radiator fan working?

I dont know if radiator fan is working.

I heard it might be thermostat.

Someone else said it might be faulty connection. But i believe it could just be the thermostat not opening propperly. Only allowing coolant into engine after it gets too hot. Can it be air bubble trapped beneath the thermostat, and how to fix such air bubble?

Check the radiator fan. Seriously.

radiator fan works tested it last night

could it be that i fitted the thermostat incorrectly?
I saw a video of someone replacing his thermostat and he said it should be alligned in a ceqtain way.

Thermostat needs replacement. How many km does the car have on? I had to replace the one on my Astra after about 150,000km.

Why exactly was the thermostat rusted? That is very strange... Do you mix anti-freeze and water 50:50? You realize the anti-freeze is to stop corrosion just as much as it is to stop freezing of the water?

That said, since those components were rusted, I would clean out the entire thing and replace pretty much anything that shows any signs of corrosion (sensors, radiator, etc. etc.).
