Heaters

I'm thinking of getting an external gas heater for the living room.
I somehow feel that the normal indoor ones that you guys are talking about won't heat up a room that is approximately 9m x 5m

In other words,
This vs. This.

Also, which one will eat through my gas quicker?

pics? Size?
Size as in physical size?

I'd caution against this. I found that even my indoor gas heater could be pretty unpleasant in terms of smell, and you'd run a real risk of gassing yourself to death if you used an outdoors heater indoors. There's a reason for all those warning labels.

Keeping a couple windows open for ventilation is counter-intuitive at night.

As for how long it will last, the one giving off more heat is burning more gas. My indoor one lasted for two months on a 9kg cylinder but we only used it rarely so you should definitely budget for gas if you're going to have it on every night.

Isn't he referring to the ones that have the gas bottle outside as opposed to inside?

Nah, if you click on his links you'll see he's considering using a patio heater indoors. Baaad idea for healthy living, lol.

One of the best things I have ever done at my house.
This is the fireplace.

It's 120cm wide, 112cm deep and 92cm high before it goes into the chute, or whatever it's called.

How would i know what the best size is to adequately warm a 9m x 5m room?

The websites that sell these types of fireplaces normally have a formula to see which one would work best for you but I will say for that size a 12kw will be awesome.

It would be enough to heat other parts of your house also.

What gas heater brand would you guys recommend in the meantime though?

And also who and what company installed these fireplaces?

Well I was happy with my one, which I got at Builder's Warehouse: https://megamaster.co.za/

Just like all the others (Alva etc) it is made in China and then rebranded locally, but the quality actually felt decent.

I bought mine from Thermo Fires in Stikland, Cape Town and it was installed by a guy they recommended.

Would they be able to build in into my existing fireplace like this?

lol dude, gas heater != gas fireplace. I dunno what else they do, you'll need to check their site and ask them. I'm just referring to their portable gas heaters.

No lol I think you got confused. I need the gas heater in the meantime, up until I get the combustion fireplace.
My question regarding the fireplace is that when I go for the combustion setup, will they be able to build it in like the last pic I sent.

Another thing, I would rather buy a free standing unit and put it somewhere else and keep that for a braai but if you must or really want to just get a builder to build it in neatly with extra bricks.

I think you would still need some flue up the chimney as it helps with the burning etc.
